The DMC was able to assist Rice GCURS (Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium) in creating a 3D file that was etched into glass. The result was given to participants of GCURS 2016 for their presentation of original research discoveries gcurs.rice.edu

DMC Audio Studio Gets a Lot of Usage Recently
In September, the DMC Audio Studio got used 14 times, and in October, it got used 23 times. People use it to record voice over narrations, singing and playing instruments, and dialogues. People also use it for video conferencing. Sometimes, people bring in their own laptop and microphone. They come in just to use the sound-proof space.

In response to a student survey for library instructions done in Spring 2015, DMC is to offer a workshop on “Infographics, Communicate Information with Graphics” on Wednesday, November 18, 10-11:15 a.m. in B43A. Sign up here.
In the undergraduate student survey, 37% expressed interest in a workshop on infographics– more than any other application (followed by data visualization at 34%). In the graduate student survey, 41% expressed interest in a workshop on visualizing data– more than any other application (followed by EndNote at 34% and Infographics at 28%).

The DMC will be completely closed from Thursday, 12/18/2014 through Sunday, 1/11/2015 for the move and the holidays. During the closing time, none of the DMC computer stations will be available for use, equipment will not be available to loan out either. In summer of 2014, the DMC acquired a new plotter Z6800 to replace 8 years old plotter. The new plotter uses pigment ink to prevent poster from color fading issue. The printing process takes less time compared to Z5500. The new plotter supports a wide variety of printing media, but the DMC mainly provides semi-glossy and canvas matte printing materials with 36” and 60” wide in size respectively.

A portable professional camcorder was added to the DMC equipment collection this summer. In addition to its full HD feature, this new handy SD card video camera comes with audio adjustment feature, which allows users to record audio with much higher quality. This camcorder is ideal to record interviews, lectures, or music performances.
